Les années 90..... The dear 90's.....

(Fr) Après avoir visité la seconde partie des années 80, nous sommes désormais dans les années 1990 dans lesquelles de nombreux modèles iconiques ont vu le jour... Petit rappel encore une fois très partial et personnel......

(Eng) After our visit in the 80's, here we are in the 90's during which a lot of iconic bikes were launched.... here is my very personnel selection...

1990

Suzuki dr 650 djebel - Yamaha fzr 1000 exup 

(Fr) Ces deux motos illustrent chacune des tendances fortes de cette décennie, à savoir les trails à la mode "Paris-Dakar" qui ont le vent en poupe et les sportives grand-tourisme qui elles se verront bientôt remplacées par des modèles bien plus légers et sportifs comme nous le voyons à l'heure actuelle ......

(Eng) These 2 bikes shows 2 major model types during the 90's : The ADV bikes reminding the "Paris-Dakar" spirit and the GT-Sport bikes which will be soon replaced by much more lighter and sporty ones....

1993

(Fr) Ces deux motos je les associe pour des raisons différentes à Paris lorsque j'y ai travaillé de 1997 à 1999..... La Mostro je l'ai vue pour la première fois porte maillot et je dois dire que j'ai eu un vrai choc : Ces pots, ce cul de sec minimaliste, un coté "bad Boy" très prononcé et ce bicylindre !!! La Mécatwin a été un choc intellectuel car déjà à l'époque (on a rien inventé..) il était proposé des kits sur base Triumph......

(Eng) When i think about this two i remember the time i was working in Paris from 1997 to 1999 : The Mostro i first saw it at "Porte Maillot" and i really had a shock : The shape, the design, the exhausts and of course the sound, very bad boy type !!! The Mecatwin was as well a shock but different because i loved the approach and the kit they were selling..... As usual we have not invented that much....

1994

Ducati 916                             Bimota DB3 Mantra

Bimota BB1 

(Fr) On ne la présente plus, la 916 est un pur chef d'oeuvre de réussite esthétique, technologie et sportive : Un "must-have" comme disent les anglais. La Bimota Mantra est une moto différente que l'on ne se lasse pas de regarder encore et encore, dans ses détails et son tout. Désignée par Sacha Lakic, elle me rappelle à ce titre son projet des années 80 que je rappelle tout en bas de cet article. Enfin, la BB1 et la Mantra me rappellent le concessionnaire de la "Folie Méricourt" toujours à paris qui vendait ces motos sublimes dans le 12ieme arrondissement je crois,,,, J'avais beaucoup hésité à l'époque de casser ma tirelire pour m'acheter une de ces 2 motos mais finalement j'optais pour une plus sage Kawasaki W650......

(Eng) We no longer present it, the Ducati 916 is a pure masterpiece of aesthetic, technological and sporting success: A truly "must-have". The Bimota Mantra is a different bike that you never get tired of looking again and again, in its details and everything. Aprila 6.5 Starck "La Moto"                  Yamaha SZR 660 

(Fr) Deux motos peut-être un peu oubliées, tout d'abord encore une fois une moto de designer à savoir "La Moto" de Philippe Starck" sur base Aprilia Pegaso 650, toujours tellement moderne à l'heure actuelle et puis la SZR, sorte d'hybride et représentante de cette catégorie de moyennes cylindrées, mais aussi de ces tentatives peu couronnées de succès de marier sportive et monocylindres (voir aussi Bimota BB1 en 1994).....

(Eng) Are they the forgotten ones ? I do not think so as i believe they are real designer's motorcycles : "La Moto" from Philippe Starck based on an Aprilia Pegaso  still so modern and the Yamaha SZR with so actual lines we could think it was launched few ago... They are also the representative of middle size motorcycles including the sporty side of it which never get the commercial success they deserved...

1997

Bimota V-DUE                                   Bimota SB8R

(Fr) Si vous ne l'avez pas encore compris, oui j'adore les Bimota et ces deux modèles sont aussi iconiques l'un que l'autre pour moi pour des raisons différentes : La V-DUE c'est le rêve d'un 2 temps moderne et la SB8R la victoire de David contre Goliath, ou plus exactement Gobert à Philip island....

(Eng) You may have understood now that i really love Bimota's,,,, The V-DUE was the dream of 2-strokes fanatics and the SB(R (K?) the victory of David vs Goliath or more precisely Gobert winning in Philip Island...

1998

Suzuki TLR 1000 


Aprila RSV 1000 R                                Ducati 900SS

(Fr) Si la Mostro me rappelait Paris, l'Aprilia aussi pour l'y avoir vu pour la premiere au salon de la moto - et y avoir passé un temps conséquent à regarder cette RSV sous tous les angles - mais par contre la TLR et la SS me renvoient à Londres car j'y travaillait lorsque la Ducati est sortie en concession et pour la Suzuki, un certain magazine anglais avait optimisé une TLR avec de la pièce de ouf et une décor inoubliable : J'en ai rêvé....

(Eng) If the Mostro reminds me Paris - as well as the Aprilia RSV for having seen it for the first time at the motorbike show - and having spent a considerable time there looking at this RSV from all angles - but on the other hand the TLR and the SS send me back to London because I was working there when the Ducati came out in dealerships and for the Suzuki, a certain English magazine had optimized a TLR with a piece of phew and an unforgettable record : I dreamed of it....

Voxan Roadster                             MV Agusta F4 750 ORO

(Fr) Fin des années 90, autre chef d'oeuvre à savoir la MV Agusta F4 750 ORO qui reste encore aujourd'hui presque inchangée dans sa forme. Rappelons nous également des Voxan et de leur modèle Roadster (Sacha Lakic...) qui fut la première Voxan à être commercialisée, de la première Guzzi pour moi de l'ère moderne et de la reconquête et enfin ma première moto avec laquelle j'ai parcouru près de 50,000 kms en 2 ans à savoir la W650 une moto que j'ai...... Oui ?...... C'est ça, oui...... adoré !!!

Nb1 : Je me permets un ajout à mon précédent article car j'ai oublié d'évoquer cette moto extraordinaire d'Alain Carré Design la Axis 749 à laquelle a participé Sacha Lakic (oui encore lui) : Tout y est, la ligne, les détails (roues lenticulaires), l'émotion, la vision, bref pour moi un chef d'oeuvre.
